Midday Music: Rasa String Quartet

Boston-based Rasa String Quartet has emerged as one of New England’s finest ensembles, finding their niche exploring the musical space where classical and folk traditions intersect. The quartet received first prize in the Associazione Europea Di Musica E Comunicazione International Chamber Music Competition (Italy), and have performed across the US including multiple appearances with Rockport Music, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society and Boston New Music Festival. They can be found collaborating with the preeminent folk musicians of today, performing their own programs in venues and festivals around the country, and participating in artistic and educational residencies at a variety of institutions.

Their Midday Music program titled Impressions dives into an exciting fusion of East Asian folk music and the Western classical tradition, from a joyful celebration of the Lunar New Year in Chen Yi’s Shuo to Jungyoon Wie's version of A Popular Tune. This vibrant program showcases visionary composers who embrace traditional folk music from around Asia, capturing the essence of each style through their own unique cultural lens.

Between Us

Palaver Strings joins forces with the Grammy award-winning Attacca Quartet for a unique collaborative performance. Selected musical works explore themes of togetherness and collective vision, in human communities, physical space, and the natural world.

Caroline Shaw’s Plan & Elevation responds to the landscape of Dumbarton Oaks and ideas of space and proportion. Paul Wiancko’s Only Ever Us reflects on human connection, while Under the Sea Wind, co-composed by Dana Lyn and Kyle Sanna for Palaver Strings, explores the interconnectedness of marine ecosystems. The program concludes with Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings, an iconic staple of string chamber repertoire, featuring the combined forces of both ensembles.

“We’re living in a golden age of string quartets...It’s hard to disagree when you hear the vibrant young players in New York’s Attacca Quartet.” NPR

Tour the private gardens of Camden, Maine with the Camden Garden Club’s signature annual event.

EVENT DETAILS

The Tour will take place rain or shine Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 9:30-4 PM at various gardens throughout Camden and includes a retrospective gardening exhibit, special events, and new attractions for ticket holders.

From expansive seaside garden estates to small bungalow side yards, the Tour aims to spotlight the very best examples of individual gardens in Camden.

This year, six private gardens will be showcased featuring a variety of landscaping, planting styles, and architectural structures, with a modern emphasis on sustainable horticulture and native plantings.

Tickets will include immersive gardenside performances by local award-winning musicians, local confectionary treats, flower arranging demonstrations, the chance to win a painting done en plein air throughout the day by Maine artist Alexandra Perry-Weiss, and access to a free public month-long retrospective Garden Tour exhibit at the Camden Public Library.

Since its beginning in 1948, the Tour has been the highlight of the Camden summer season. The first Tour featured 10 private gardens throughout Camden and it has continued every year since then with the exception of 2020, which was suspended due to the COVID pandemic.

Further information about the Tour will be released and announced in the coming weeks.
