His images, from windjammers and lighthouses to a seal lounging on the rocks, are filled with what he calls “bright, bombastic color,” a signature that makes his work instantly recognizable.

Nathan grew up in Hawaii and first came to Maine to attend Maine Maritime Academy. After a decade at sea, much of it spent captaining yachts around the world, he realized he wanted to trade life aboard for something more rooted. Photography, once just a hobby on long ocean passages, became the natural next chapter. “When you’re on your own boat, you can’t take pictures of your boat,” he says. “I loved it when friends would catch us under sail and send me the photo. Now I get to do that for others.”

Based in Lincolnville, Nathan photographs everything from classic yachts and working boats to regattas and private charters. He is just as happy capturing a small dinghy as he is a superyacht. “It doesn’t matter how big or fancy the boat is,” he says. “If you want photos of it, give me a call.” His work has already caught the attention of boat owners, regatta organizers, and local shipyards, and his portfolio now spans seascapes, wildlife, and astrophotography.
