Holly Gagne in Camden

In her Camden design studio, Holly Gagne has created a space that feels more like a quiet refuge than a showroom. Tucked away just off the main drag, the space offers a sense of calm that reflects her approach to design: grounded in nature, highly intentional, and tailored to how people actually live. "We’re constantly surrounded by things that influence us," Holly says. "But the goal isn’t to copy what you see. It’s to identify what really speaks to you—and build from there."

Holly opened the Camden location after years of running her interior design studio on the North Shore of Massachusetts. The decision to expand northward came after her family purchased a home on Islesboro in 2019, then relocated to Maine during the pandemic. As she walked the streets of Camden with her family, a storefront caught her attention. "It wasn’t on Main Street. It wasn’t flashy. But it just felt right," she says. Surrounded by other design professionals, she saw an opportunity to build a studio that was both a creative lab and a meeting place for clients, artisans, and curious passersby.

The studio and shop now function as an extension of Holly’s personal aesthetic—earth-toned, rich in texture, and influenced by the natural world. Her background in interior architecture and her emphasis on layered, lived-in beauty show through in every detail. “I love pieces that have age or imperfection to them. Things that are handmade. Things that tell a story,” she says.

Her ultimate goal is to help clients live more comfortably and more consciously. Whether she's reviewing architectural plans or curating objects for the shop, Holly encourages people to design spaces that reflect their daily rituals, values, and long-term needs. "You should be able to walk into a room and feel like it supports the way you want to live," she says. "It should feel like you.”
